Legacy hospice recently had a family that was fearful of their loved one dying alone. The family spent the entire day with their loved one but needed rest during the night hours. Legacy volunteer and Legacy staff volunteered to sit vigil, taking shifts, with this patient to allow family time to rest and have a sense of peace and comfort knowing their loved one was never alone.
We are excited to announce Volunteer Coordinator, Rachel Radtke, and Director of Supportive Care, Erica Olson are working on developing a Vigil Program specific to these types of requests. Nobody should have to die alone. Being able to provide a service that can assist in making sure that doesn’t happen AND provide family the support and reprieve they need during this difficult transition is so meaningful.
