When illness takes a person's health it can also take one's ability to perform activities of daily living such as toileting, bathing, dressing, eating, walking... Nursing assistants can restore a person's self-care needs and provide the much-needed help in this very personal and intimate space. The help they provide can sometimes mean the ability to keep a person's independence and stay at home rather than have to move to a nursing care facility.
"With the help I get from my nursing assistants, I was able to stay home a lot longer than I expected! It also allowed me to have the dignity to pass away at my own home!" - anonymous
