What Are the Signs That a Patient Might Be Ready for Hospice?

For a patient to be entered into hospice care, they must be evaluated by a physician and diagnosed with a terminal illness with less than six months to live. Some signs that indicate your loved one may be ready for hospice include: 

  • Frequent hospitalizations or visits to the ER
  • A decline in their ability to perform daily tasks of life, such as eating, getting dressed, walking, or using the bathroom
  • Falling frequently
  • A decline in mental abilities
  • Progressive weight loss
  • Skin tears, infections, and other signs of deteriorating health
